In my last post, I mentioned that I had gotten another job. I know what stresses me out, so I asked to shadow the teacher who is leaving for his last two days. This way I could meet the kids and see what kinds of things they’re working on.
This is the first time I’ve ever had the courage to ask a favor before I’ve even signed a contract. Guess what? It was the BEST IDEA EVER.
The kids know me, I know the schedule, and now I’m not walking in blind. In fact, the teacher who is leaving even said this should be done whenever possible. It was a great transfer. Since it’s part-time, I still have several days before I actually start, but I’M NOT TERRIFIED (except for one thing: since I came in before my contract started, I got called to the cafeteria for faculty picture day today…I HATE PHOTOS. 😉 )
Confession: I know part of that is the shadowing I did, but I think the anxiety medication is starting to kick in, too. 😉 For the first time in my life, I’m advocating for what I need. IT’S WORKING.
